If you love coastal decor, you'll love HGTV's 25th-anniversary dream home in Newport, Rhode Island. It mixes coastal style and modern nautical-inspired spaces for a dream vacation home near the historic seaside town on Narraganset Bay.
Where is the HGTV Dream Home 2021 located?
This year's 25th anniversary Dream Home is located in Portsmouth, RI on the Sakonnet River, just 10 miles north of downtown Newport, RI, the charming seaside New England town with a rich history and sailing culture.
Newport is a favorite coastal destination with a picturesque harbor and walkable historic downtown. You're minutes from the beach, the famous Cliff Walk, and the Newport Gilded Age mansions, not to mention world-class seafood.
Known as the sailing capital of the world, Newport is situated on Narragansett Bay. It was the home of the America's Cup for over 50 years, and the designer has incorporated nautical touches throughout the home to pay homage to the sport.
Dream house design
Built on a bluff overlooking the water, the three-story Cape Cod style house takes full advantage of the incredible waterfront views. And like last year's dream home on Hilton Head Island, its interior design incorporates the character of the coastal location.
Starting with this classic coastal kitchen in navy and white with natural wood accents, it's filled with sailing inspired touches. The dark wood countertops on the perimeter of the kitchen are a nod to the wooden accents you see on vintage sailboats. The woven pendants and wicker bar stools add to the coastal feel.
The blue and white theme continues in the two-story open plan living room with a bold New England red accent wall. The design focuses on the expansive water views from the glass doors that lead onto the deck.
Coastal decor touches can be seen in the wicker coffee table with an oversize clamshell. On the other side of the room is the informal dining area with a farmhouse style table that seats eight or more.
The backyard is a dream with multiple entertaining spaces including a full outdoor kitchen with bar, dining area, fire pit with stone walls that double as extra seating. It also includes a rooftop deck with a wet bar—accessed by a spiral staircase—and a raised deck off the living room.
Across the yard is a separate deck with a pergola for shade, strategically placed to take advantage of the water views.
The Newport dream home has a master suite plus three additional coastal style bedrooms, three full bathrooms and two half-baths, as well as a library and a multi-use bonus room designed to entertain everyone in the family. All decorated with coastal touches like sailboat models, surfboards, paddles, and nautical maps.
