With just a few simple ingredients, you can whip up delicious strawberry margaritas in no time. Its vibrant pink color and refreshing taste make it perfect for Valentine’s Day, a springtime sip, peak strawberry season, or summer cocktails by the pool.
Ingredients You'll Need
Ready to mix up a strawberry margarita? Here’s what you’ll need.
- Fresh strawberries – Muddled for a sweet, juicy strawberry flavor. Choose ripe, fragrant berries for the best taste.
- Blanco tequila – This crisp, unaged tequila lets the strawberries shine. Look for blanco or silver tequila made with 100% blue agave.
- Orange liqueur – You can use Grand Marnier, Cointreau or Triple Sec to add a hint of orange flavor.
- Fresh lime juice – Always use freshly squeezed lime juice for the brightest citrus kick.
- Agave nectar – A natural sweetener that blends smoothly with tequila. I like organic light agave made from blue agave plants. Simple syrup works as a substitute.
- Ice cubes – Essential for shaking and serving the drink on the rocks.
Bar Equipment
To make a perfect strawberry margarita at home, you’ll need:
- Cocktail shaker – A must for an ice-cold, well-mixed margarita. (I like using one with a built-in strainer.)
- Muddler – Mashes the strawberries to release their juices and flavor.
- Cocktail glass – A classic rocks glass is perfect for this.
How to Make a Strawberry Margarita
This fresh strawberry margarita recipe is easy and fun. Follow these simple steps, and you’ll be sipping on a refreshing cocktail in no time!
Step 1: Prep the Glass
Run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass. Dip the rim in a small dish of coarse salt, sugar, or a mix of both. Salt is traditional, but sugar enhances the strawberries’ natural sweetness.
Fill the glass with ice cubes and set it aside to chill.
Step 2: Mix the Drink
Add the chopped strawberries to your shaker and muddle until they release their juices. (I used a glass in the photo so you can see what the muddled strawberries look like, but you can just muddle them in the bottom of the shaker.)
Pour in the tequila, orange liqueur, fresh lime juice, and agave. Add ice cubes, then shake for about 15 seconds or until well chilled.
Step 3: Serve and Garnish
Strain your margarita into the prepared glass. I like the little strawberry bits, but you can double strain it if you want it perfectly smooth.
Garnish with a fresh strawberry by slicing a small cut in the bottom so it sits on the rim. You can also add a lime wheel or fresh basil leaves for an extra pop of flavor.
Fun Variations
Want to switch things up? Try these twists on a classic strawberry margarita:
- Frozen Strawberry Margarita – Blend everything with ice for a frosty, slushy treat—perfect for hot days.
- Strawberry Jalapeño Margarita – Muddle in a slice or two of fresh jalapeño with the strawberries for a sweet-spicy kick.
- Berry Swap – Use raspberries for a raspberry margarita or mangoes for a tropical twist.
- Strawberry Daiquiri – Use rum instead of tequila. Serve on the rocks or combine with ice in a blender for a frozen drink.
- Make a Pitcher – Multiply the recipe to serve a crowd. Mix everything in advance and pour over ice when ready to serve.
