It's the perfect holiday cocktail to celebrate the Christmas season and ring in the New Year.

And you can easily whip this up at home—no fancy espresso machine required!

    Here's what you'll need

You only need a handful of ingredients to make this eggnog espresso martini. And you can swap ingredients with what you have, like using cold brew instead of espresso.

    Eggnog espresso martini recipe ingredients.
    • Eggnog: Brings that creamy richness with holiday spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. Use your favorite store-bought brand or homemade eggnog.
    • Espresso: If you have an espresso maker, make a shot of fresh espresso. If not, cold brew concentrate, double-strength coffee, or even Italian espresso powder (dissolved in an ounce of hot water) will work.
    • Baileys: Irish cream liqueur adds creaminess and a hint of Irish whiskey flavor.
    • Vodka: I like plain or vanilla vodka here. You can use any flavor that goes with eggnog, but I would stick with an infused vodka that's not sweetened since the other ingredients are sweet.
    • Kahlua: This rum and coffee liqueur deepens the coffee flavor while adding a subtle sweetness.
    • Ice cubes: Essential for chilling and blending your cocktail.

    Bar Equipment

Cocktail shaker: To chill and lightly foam the drink. (I like this stainless steel one that has a built-in strainer).

Measuring glass: A measuring glass like this one makes it easy to measure ounces (a jigger or small measuring cup works too).

Martini glasses: And don’t forget festive cocktail glasses! Martini glasses are classic, but coupe glasses are another stylish option with a slightly higher rim.

    Instructions

    Step 1: Prepare the glass

Chill your cocktail glass in the freezer for at least 30 minutes. Want to make it fancy? Add a sugar rim! Simply dip the rim in maple syrup, then into a plate of brown sugar or sugar mixed with a pinch of pumpkin spice.

    Step 2: Mix the drink

In your shaker combine the eggnog, espresso coffee, Baileys, Kahlua, vodka, and ice cubes. Shake until the mixture is well-chilled, creamy, and blended.

    Step 3: Serve it up

Pour your eggnog espresso martini into your prepared glass and garnish with a few espresso beans floated on the top. Add a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg if you like.

    Fun Variations

Start with the basic recipe and you can change up your coffee cocktail to make many different variations.

Traditional holiday cheer: Swap the vodka for spiced rum, bourbon, or brandy to enhance the eggnog vibes.

Less sweet: Try coffee-infused vodka as an unsweetened alternative to Kahlua.

Less caffeine: Opt for decaf espresso or coffee to get all the flavor with less of a kick.
